Moose $300 Poker Tournament at Golden Nugget
I'm almost afraid to tell you about my upcoming tournament...but what the heck, right? I'm a member of a fraternal organization called the Loyal Order of the Moose. Women can't be "Moose" members, they have to be members of Women of the Moose. But, anyway, we can play in their poker tournaments. Its a good thing, too, as one of the best female players in Nevada ia a member of the same lodge to which I belong. Her name is Jeanie West and she's won a buttload playing in Ladies' Events. I HATE Ladies Events, but that's for another post.
Anyway, I never even knew they had these annual tourneys here in Vegas...but last year, I found out about the game too late to register. This year, the guy who used to be our Lodge Governor, Jerry, emailed me in plenty of time to register. The game is next Monday. I've already reserved with my poker coach for a lesson on Sunday, the day prior. Unfortunately, Jeannie will also be in the event. Gulp. Big Gulp, and I'm not talking about 7-11, either.
As I did for the PCA last year (tho fat lot of good it did for that event) I'm going to reread Harrington's tournament book. I will say though, that even tho I got sick at the PCA, when I chopped 1st/2nd in Feb at Harrah's Laughlin, it was less than 2 weeks after the PCA, so I think my studying and Randi's teaching helped me win that one, then.
Anyone who has some pearls of poker widom, I am actively soliciting any help. Here are the details
Buyin $300
Starting Stacks: $25,000
Levels 55 mins
Length of event 3 days
1st place $16,000
Number of players paid: 82
Come in in 82nd? Get $700
Any questions need to be answered in order for you guys to help me, just let me know!

WSOP Satty Cash
I haven't had a lot to post about lately...but for a change I have some great news to share with you. Once again Bruce and I drove down to Laughlin to play in the monthly Harrah's invite to the WSOP satty. Its a freeroll for the invited player, but that person can buy someone else in. I bouhgt Bruce in ...but he didn't make it to day to. I did.
The structure is the same every month: Play down to the last two on day one. On day two, those two play in the semi finals along with all the others who made it. I knocked out EVERYONE at my table on day one. No, it WASN'T a bounty (or I'd be rich)! But I made it to the se i finals. I had to win my table completely during that round and I did. That gave me a guaranteed seat at the final table. Payouts were as follows. 10-6 paid $250. Fifth and fourth got $500. Third got $3,000, second $5,000 and 1st got the $10K seat to the WSOP ME or $8,000 cash. I came in 3rd for $3,000!
That makes the 2nd time in 12 events in which I cashed on the tousands (the first time, we chopped 1st and 2nd for $5,000 each. One other time, I also cashed by it was the King of the River tourney, also at Harrah's Laughlin but I only came in 18th for $221.

Snow on May 30th? You bet!
After a week in Reno, Bruce and I decided to go east and THEN south back to Vegas. Its a straight shot from Fallon south on 95 home, but for an additional 250 miles we could go east to the end of the state, then diagonally across the state to wind up in the southwest corned of Nevada. sounds like a good judgement call, right? Hmmm, no.
About our plans to explore northern Nevada. I LOVE those old timey small towns with a real main street, no Wal-Mart. You know the kind? Nevada's small towns aren't from the 1950s or '40s at all they're from the 1800s. YUP 1800s. Pony Express history right here in NV. We wanted to travel the historic Lincoln Highway which is Hwy 50. Its termed "The Lonliest Highway in the World" as it has ABSOLUTELY nothing for hundreds of miles. Your gas tank has to get filled every town, cuz you don't know when you will find another one. and I pee-pee ALOT and I had to hold it in between stops (yuck) I wanted to find a part of the road where I could pop out pee on ground and get in car. But it didn't get that bad.
So we went from Reno to a small town called Fallon 63 miles away. About 5 casinos there, but no luck. We spent the night. We took Rt 50 to the next big town which is a bunch of trailers an d a small restaurant called Austin. Had to pee, of course. Sign said restrooms are for customers, only. Ah, sure, I'll buy something, lol. I'll buy anything but I gotta gooooooo!
We buy drinks of all things. Its about 180 miles from Fallon to Eureka. We figure it had to be a cool place, seeing as it's name was so cool. But, hmmm, Bruce has this massive sinus headache and the clouds are really think and grey. Eureka is made up of 1 or 2 motels I'd never go to and a bar called the Owl Club. Pee time!
We get back in the car and the snow starts. Yes, SNOW on May 30, 2011. White out conditions and we're driving up MOUNTAINS and down...on slippery roads. We finally (200 miles later) stop at Ely, NV and try to find a non-dump to stay at. No building is newer than the early 1900s. OMG now good clean modern places. Downtown, that is. We decide to go to the end of the city limits just in case. And at the top of the mountain is the Prospector Hotel (Used to be a Holiday Inn). PHEW. Clean, new and it has a restaurant and a small gaming area. We arrive by 4:30pm and it's still pouring snow like mad. And it snows and snows till about midnight. We wake up and get moving, have decided to see what the new day will bring in terms of being stranded for another night. The temps have been in the 40s all morning and all the snow on the roadways is gone, but it's still everywhere else. Cool. We're on the road to home. Got home last night about 6pm and slept in out own beds last night and its about 80 degress. Finally, no snow.

Poker adventures
I played in the Jen Harmom Celebrity Throwdown to benefit the NSPCA. Didn't last very long. Structure was good, but it was a $220 buy-in with $50 rebuys for the 1st 3 levels. I rebought immediately after sitting down and rebought one more time, but still, not a good game for me.
Why not? Part of it was I simply don't have the attention span of a fly. I'm at the point of being ready to try something for ADD. The announer was a poker celeb (not so much as a player, but a voice) and he maintained a circus like atmosphere, constantly on the mic and embarrassing the poker pros and celebs into going al in and rebuying to support the NSCPA. Too much hype in the atmosphere for me. by the 3rd hour I didn't bother to add on and when I went out, I was gone.
I did, however enjoy playing with the celeb at my table, (forgive my spelling), Mykki Phieffer. He was the blck doctor on ER. He was such a warm and personable guy. His behavior at the table gave actors a good name. He was not a divo and he made everyone feel like participating in this event was a pleasure, not a chore.
Note to self: when playing in a poker pro/celeb tourney, always chose the celeb opponenet, they're worse than the pros, lol. He got KOed about 10 mins before I did.

South Point Poker Room
For the 2nd time in a week, I played at South Point. During the swing shift (4-10) they can't seem to get a $2-6 spread limit game going. This is my favorite format. It's either (ugh) $2-4 or $1-2NL. I'm not good enough for NL so $2-4, it is. When I first moved to this part of town, I HATED $2-4 after playing it for a few months. $2-4 sn an invitation for people to play ATC EVERY HAND AND PLAY ATC TO ANY RAISE, ALL THE WAY TO THE RIVER. Nice, if they didn't get so freakin' lucky. That's why I hate $2-4. But I've been on such a downswing lately, I figured I'd lose less $$ in $2-4 even if they chased till the river, every time. If I played my TAG game, my buy-in would last me a long time, even with the donkeys.
Flash back to my very first $2-4 game at SP. I left there fuming and bitching about how terribly they played (after losing to the chasers). I folded up my poker room player's card and told the floorman I'd not be back. Two and a half years later, there I am, willing to play at $2-4. At the end of the session, I was up $75. Hmmmm, nice. AND ENTERTAINING. I remember how, those few years ago, I was steaming at how badly they played and let the table know. Not that anyone here (Mom) would know this tendency of mine. Love you, Mom. This time, I knew what to expect and I rolled with the punches. Ah, but there was this one gal whose stack, when I sat down was $240. I was told she bought in for $40 and was good. So I figured she'd be the one to learn from.
And I did. I saw her win a $50 pot by calling all the way to the river with K-6suited and hit her flush. Hmmm. Good? Not so much. I see she's one of those chasers. I have 6-6. I raise preflop. She calls flop of Kd-Jd X. I I check. she bets $2. I call. Next card is not a diamond. She bets, I call. I figure she's on a diamond draw. River is yes, a 6h. I bet she reraises. I call. I have a set; I win. She mucks. I asked her what did you have? She says Kings, "WHAT DID YOU THINK I HAD?" Steaming and fuming. I replied, "Any two suited diamonds. That's what you played when you won that big pot." And the whole table burst out laughing. And she went nuts. It was on. By the time she picked up her $200 remaining chips, the table was determined to beat her every hand and they did. She ranted (sorry Mom) and raved (sorry Jerry) which made the table even more anxious to get their chips back from her. I had enough of it when she said, "I ONLY lose when other people make mistakes!" I said something to her that made it worse. I said, "Look, you're at a $2-4 table there are lots of seats at the $1-2 NL tables right over there. Why don't you play NL if you're so good?" I now have a target on my back (and forehead). According to her, "I'll be back" I said, "Good, I don't really like $2-4 let's play $2-6 spread when they get a game going and then we'll see just how horrible a player I am.
Prayer: "Dear God, I know there's nothing wrong with being from the New York City area, but why did you curse us all with being such instigators?" God said, "Because it's so entertaining." The end.

Diving In at South Point
As you just learned,I've been avoiding live cards for a little while. I've played a few live games at Club Fortune. This month they had a coupon in one of those giveaway newspapers for $50 when you buy-in for $40 and play for one hour. This poker room only has 2 tournaments a week. One on Monday, which used to be 'The Bomb' Now they reduced the starting stack from 6K to 3K and increased the buy-in by $5. Not a great deal. They still give you $20 in free slot play good 24 hrs after the tourney, but it's still not a good game. The levels are 15 or 20 mins and 3K doesn't last long.
On Wednesdays, they now hold a Deep Stack (ha) with what used to be their regular starting stack: 6K. It costs $65.
On either day when you play for 30 mins you get an add'l $500 chips added to your stack, to a max of 2K added (2 hrs live play). Those add'l chips plus the extra $10 for playing 1 hr, makes the game a Ev. My only problem is now I have to finally cash in the thing. Dang it all. At least my (gasp) $2-4 skillz and $3-6 skillz make the cash game a EV in reality, not just on paper.

Falling Out of Love
Jack and I have been PMing about why I haven't update my thread. When I explaned to him why I felt none of you would be interested, he read it and suggested I post my explanation and see for myswelf. so, I ask you all, "Do you still love poker?"
I fell out of love with poker; it started out as a result of how nothing I did on Merge would work properly. I could never win, ANYTHING, ANYMORE on PDC. I had several hundred $$ on every site, but I love PDC the most. I almost never played on the big 3, anyway, unless it was for OFC or something like that. On PDC I kept trying and trying and never cashed. So, I played only occasionally, tho I tried to play our Sunday games whenever I could, for the GTP family.
I have played a little live lately, but not much...till last night. More on that, next post...
I then found I had no interest in live poker. This, I think stemmed from playing in the Wed Poker Groups' home games on Stars. The 'good' players, whose live play I respect were so stupidly aggressive on the $1.10 games (4 or more games/night) on Stars and would bet and/or shove EVERY TIME with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, just for the sake of being seen as 'smart' or 'good' or WTF, I don't know. That depressed me in terms of poker. I had to ask myself, "Is THIS (HORRIBLE WAY OF PLAYING) HOW THEY PLAY FOR REAL MONEY? IN the $1-2NL and $2-5NL? Because if it is, this play from people I thought were working poker players is WORSE than the LAGs online. And Iost any passion for the live game, as a result.
I didn't figure I wanted to lay all that out in public. So I had nothing to write about that would be positive about poker, so I said nothing. As time went on we approached April 15, Black Friday and what to say, now? So I stayed quiet.
I've played at a level I actualy hate, lately and am doing ok at it, but I won't play at the higher levels if the 'good players' play like the idiot play we see on TV and they're good? I expect that shitty play from idiots playing $2-4 or $4-8; not from people whose hand descriptions and lessons prove they know HOW TO PLAY WELL, but then, I see them playing like freeroll idiots.
So I don't know what to say on the site? Can you help me? In my opinion, I see no valid reason to play like Tom Dwan; which is how these 'good players' are playing and winning. I just can't see the logic. Why do the pros teach good play as a good defense against idiocy? Is it, "do as I say, not as I do," or what? And yes some of these Wed people are pros

After Sunday's games, I was really sick
Sorry for being so short on Sunday. By the time I donked out of the last two games, I was so sick I was unable to do anything but climb into bed. After getting in there, I had these lightening pains shooting up my fingers, toes, legs and arms. All my joints screamed in pain. It wasn't until today that I felt well enough to even go to the doctor. He has me on Tamiflu and ibuprofen (600mgs). I'm a mess. I'll update this when I feel better.
