In 2003, Chris Moneymaker, an amateur player who won his entry online from Pokerstars, won the main event at the World Series of Poker.
This changed the poker world forever, both on and offline...by 2004, the internet was bursting at the seams with online poker rooms, and websites, forums, and banner farms promoting them.
WannaTalkPoker began in 2004, one of the many poker forums built and opened that year, hoping to capitalize on the sudden popularity of the game, specifically the online market. It was no different than any other...
In the fall of 2004, the site changed ownership, and the man known as "Jack_Benny" took the helm, and began steering the ship in new and different directions. With a goal of providing a place for poker fans, old and new alike, to come and gather, play together, and ultimately interact in a manner apart from the barbaric norm of the internet, the NEW WannaTalkPoker was launched. It was never an overnight success, but those who found it developed an immediate bond with the site, and a real community was born.
As 2005 dawned, the site began growing in earnest and building a reputation of honesty, fairness, and trust, and a solid foundation for the community that would follow. Over the next five years, WannaTalkPoker would continue to evolve, changing its direction as its members needs changed, and making the word "community" mean something online.
WannaTalkPoker.com pioneered the first member-run forum, where members selected their own officials to run the site as THEY saw fit. The WannaTalkPoker Championships were well-known for their easy to follow structure, and great prize pools; over the years, we gave out three computers to the WannaTalkPoker Championship winners, and thousands of dollars worth of prizes and cash. Over it's 6 year run, WannaTalkPoker gave out over $10,000 in cash and prizes.
When WannaTalkPoker said, "It pays to be a WannaTalker", it was dead-on TRUE.
But, all good things must come to an end, and WannaTalkPoker.com had grown as much as it could. To effect change, it had to evolve, and move forward into something entirely new and different.
Now, it is gone, but the next generation lives on...
